IC-PCR 2500

Wideband PC Receiver

The IC-PCR2500 receiver is the advanced version of the IC-PCR1500. The IC-PCR2500 has two receiver circuits, which allow for diversity reception and dual receive. Three optional internal modules (UT-106 AF DSP unit, UT-108 DTMF decoder or UT-118 D-Star digital voice decoder) are available to provide extra receive capability.

Dualwatch capability*1
The IC-PCR2500 covers 0.01-3299.999 MHz in AM, FM, WFM, SSB, CW and DV*2 modes on the main band, while the sub-band covers 50-1300MHz in AM, FM and WFM modes*3 simultaneously. *1 Two antennas are required for dualwatch receive. *2 Optional UT-118 required. *3 Frequency range differs depending on version.

USB connection PC receiver
The IC-PCR2500 turns your PC into a wideband receiver, by just pluging into the USB port on your PC. All functions can be controlled on your desktop and the received signals can be heard through your computer’s audio system via USB cable.

IC-R8500

Communications Receiver

The Icom ICR8500 Communications Receiver is probably the only receiver you will ever need, with superb coverage from 0.1- 2000Mhz in all modes. Includes new style AD-55 mains power supply.

  • Wide Frequency Coverage
    The IC-R8500 covers a wide frequency range from 0.1 to 2000MHz, with 10Hz resolution, while maintaining high receive sensitivity. You can be sure that if there are any communications or broadcasts out there, you’ll be able to hear them with minimum interference from other signals.
  • Various tuning steps
    Two methods of frequency entry are available; using the tuning dial or direct frequency entry from the keypad. Numerous tuning steps are available for operating a wide variety of stations.
    In addition, a programmable tuning step is available. The programmable tuning step can be set (independently for each memory channel) to a value between 0.5 ~ 199.5Khz in 0.5kHz steps.
  • All Mode Capability
    The IC-R85000’s all mode capability allows you to receive signals in many different modes. SSB (USB, LSB), CW, AM, FM and WFM are included. Several specialty modes such as CW narrow, AM wide, AM narrow and FM narrow are available to receive a variety of signals that require a matched passband width.
  • Superior receive characteristics
    The ICR8500 has superb high receive sensitivity over its entire range, and built in high quality crystal (TCXO) provides excellent frequency stability of less than +/- 10Hz below 30MHz; less than +/- 3ppm above 30MHz.
  • Convenient features for receive
    IF shift and APF (audio peak filter) functions are built in. IF shift is used to reduce interference from nearby signals. It does so by adjusting the centre frequency of the IF filter.
    APF is used to reduce interference from signals superimposed over a desired signal by adjusting the centre frequency of the audio filter. The APF is especially useful when receiving CW. It is also useful in other modes as a tone control. In addition a noise blanker, RF attenuator and selectable AGC functions clarify desired signals when experiencing various forms of interference. A digital AFC function tunes the receiver to the center of FM or WFM signals.
  • Ample memory Channels
    The IC-R8500 has 1000 memory channels. Each memory channel can store a frequency, mode (including passband width) and tuning step etc.
  • Versatile scanning functions
    For basic scanning – memory, priority and program scans are available. For more advanced needs – select, skip, auto write and mode select scans can be selected. The IC-R8500 scans very quickly and the speed is continuously adjustable up to 40 channels per second (in both memory and programmed scans) with a continuously adjustable delay time. VSC (voice scan control) provides efficient scanning by skipping unmodulated signals so that you can customise the scan behavior to suit your needs.
  • RS-232C interface
    An RS-232C serial port is located on the rear panel of the receiver for direct connection to PC. Icom’s CI-V data communications format allows you to control and monitor many receiver functions from your PC, as well as to read data or levels in the receiver such as AF gain, squelch level, received signal strength together with received frequency, channel names and many others.

Wideband coverage
The IC-R9500 covers 0.005€“3335MHz in SSB, AM, FM (WFM), CW, FSK and P25* modes. It is suitable for a wide variety of radio monitoring and listening activities.

Superb receiver performance
The IC-R9500 achieves amazing performance by using a D-MOS FET array in the 1st mixer (below 30MHz) and an excellent IMD roofing filter. The IC-R9500 has +40dBm IP3 and 109dB dynamic range at 14.1MHz. IP3 performance is +9.8dBm at 50MHz and +6.2dBm at 620MHz (+5dBm (typical) from 30MHz to 3335MHz).

Five roofing filters
The IC-R9500 has 5 independent roofing filters (240, 50, 15, 6 and 3kHz) for improved selectivity. In congested RF spectrum conditions, it is extremely important to protect against strong in-band signals. The 3kHz roofing filter provides a 130dB (approx.)* blocking dynamic range.

Dual DSP
The IC-R9500 incorporates two independent, 32-bit floating point DSP units, a dedicated DSP unit for receiver functions and another for the spectrum scope. By using the power of two independent DSP units, the radio can respond to operator changes in an instant.

±0.05ppm high frequency stability
The IC-R9500 uses an OCXO (Oven Control Crystal Oscillator) unit which provides ±0.05ppm frequency stability from 0°C to 50°C. The 10MHz reference frequency can either be supplied to or input from external equipment.

Digital IF filter
The digital IF filter* allows the operator to adjust the filter shape (sharp or soft), filter bandwidth, and centre frequency characteristics. The digital twin PBT narrows and shifts the IF passband to efficiently eliminate undesired signals.

Using a dedicated DSP unit improves the dynamic range of the spectrum scope. The IC-R9500 has four different spectrum modes such as normal/wide and centre/fixed width. The normal spectrum scope covers a range from ±2.5kHz to ±5MHz, while the wide band spectrum scope* observes up to ±500MHz (±10MHz, ±25MHz, ±50MHz, ±100MHz ±250MHz and ±500MHz selectable). When using the normal spectrum scope, the digital scopes filter width can vary from 200Hz to 20kHz with a variable sweep speed.

The spectrum scope can also be set to use specific scope edges or to centre the span on the receiving frequency.

The peak search function automatically moves the display marker to the strongest signal on the scope screen. In addition to these features, the scope has 3 levels of attenuation (10dB, 20dB, 30dB).

  • Fixed mode: The scope screen does not shift when you change the receiving frequency.
  • Centre mode: the scope screen shifts as the receiving frequency moves. The receiving frequency is always centred on the scope screen.

7-inch wide Colour TFT LCD
The large 7-inch wide (800 x 480 pixels) active matrix display delivers quick response time, high resolution and has a wide viewing angle. The multi-function spectrum scope is displayed in vivid colour. The background colour is selectable from black or blue for your preference. In addition, the IC-R9500 has a VGA connector allowing you to connect an external monitor.

Multiple RSSI
S-meter, dB?, dB?(emf) and dBm meter types are selectable in the IC-R9500. The dB?, dB?(emf) and dBm meter have ±3dB of accuracy (10 to 70dB? signal from 100kHz to 3335MHz at 25°C).

Noise blanker
The IC-R9500 has a DSP controlled noise blanker that significantly reduces pulse type noise and improves the S/N ratio by removing interfering noise. The noise blanker has two channels with adjustable width and depth parameters. You can use these to target specific noise interference.

Noise reduction
The noise reduction function separates signal components from random noise through Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and enhances the signals buried in noise for improved signal readability.

Two-point manual notch filter
The digital manual notch filter has a depth of more than 70dB at two points with adjustable filter width (wide, middle, narrow). This means that two strong beat signals can be eliminated at once even while using the auto notch filter.

Synchronous AM detection
The synchronous AM (S-AM) detection provides less distorted audio than normal diode detection. This mode is useful when fading occurs or signal level is low. The IC-R9500 can recreate the carrier signal exactly by using the DSP. In addition, upper or lower sideband demodulation for S-AM is selectable for eliminating interference from adjacent strong signals.

FSK modulator & decoder

10 VFOs
The IC-R9500 has 10 VFO channels for tuning and storing operating frequencies, mode, filter width and other settings. You can quickly change the operating bands with the 10- keypad. When the VFO is changed, the settings are automatically stored in that VFO channel.

The IC-R9500 has a total of 1220 memory channels. Store frequencies, modes, filter width and tuning steps. Memory channels are grouped into 10 memory banks. By connecting to a USB keyboard, you can edit memory contents directly.

Digital voice recorder
The IC-R9500 has two types of digital voice recorders. One is the regular recorder, recording for long periods in €œWAV€ format into the built-in CF memory or an external USB memory. The sampling rate is variable from 8kHz (SQ1) to 48kHz (SHQ). In SQ1 mode, up to 130 minutes (approx.) of recorded audio can be stored into the CF memory. The other recorder is the short voice recorder, which saves the previous 15 seconds of radio audio into RAM, allowing you to play back the audio instantly.

USB connector
The IC-R9500 has a USB connector for connecting an external USB memory or other USB devices. Received audio and configuration files can be imported and exported to a PC. Firmware upgrade is also possible via USB memory.

Handheld Audio/Visual Receiver

IC-R5

Compact Wideband Handheld Receiver

The IC-R2 was one of the most successful models in recent years (the MVT-7100 arguably continues to carry that title) however it lacked some features found on other similar models – text descriptions on memory channels and the capability to use an external power source were two. In the IC-R5 Icom have added these features and a few extra ones two.

The IC-R5 has continuous coverage from 150kHz to 1309.995 MHz with 1000 regular memory channels, 200 auto store channels and 25 search banks. You are able to make up your own channel names for all memory channels/search banks and channel recognition is easy ! The IC-R5’s LCD display lets you use numbers, letters or a combination of both when naming channels and banks. Icom’s exclusive Dynamic Memory Scan (DMS) gives you the flexibility to customise and manage the IC-R5’s memory banks the way you want or need.

As with the IC-R2 the IC-R5 requires 2 x AA batteries for internal power however unlike the previous IC-R2 the new IC-R5 can also be powered from an external 12v DC Power Source. The DC jack allows for simultaneous battery charging while operating the radio.

The optional software and cable, IC-R5 programming and cloning is a breeze. Hook your IC-R5 up to a PC and you’re ready to program channel names, scan lists, and more.

IC-R20

Communications Receiver

Tune in the world where ever you go. The Icom IC-R20-06 has extremely wide coverage from 150 kHz to 3304.999 MHz (less 824-849 & 869-894 MHz cellular). Modes of reception include:  FM, WFM AM, (SSB) USB, LSB, CW. This radio has two VFOs with dual watch capability. A built-in 32 MB IC audio recorder can record 1, 2 or 4 hours of reception (playback quality will be less on 2 or 4 hour settings). A total of 1250 memories are featured: 1000 regular, 25 scan edge and 200 auto-write scan. And this is Icom’s fastest scanning radio at 100 channels per second in VFO mode. There are three types of priority watch: Memory Channel Watch, Memory Scan Watch and VFO Scan Watch. The R20 offers six forms of scanning. Scan resume can even be adjusted for 2 to 20 seconds or unlimited. CTCSS/DTCS/DTMF decode is built-in. The large two line dot-matrix LCD can be programmed for 8 character channel names.

You can “see” your signals with the built-in band scope. The sweep range can be selected from ±14 kHz to ±1400 kHz. Other advanced features include:  Voice Scan Control (opens squelch only when a modulated signal is detected), Auto Squelch, Attenuator, key lock, RF Gain, Noise Blanker, ANL and AF filter. A built-in ferrite bar antenna improves medium wave reception. Weather channels and weather alert (USA version only) are featured. CI-V PC control compatibility is supported with optional CT-17. Simple PC programming and cloning is available via the optional CS-R20 software CD (with USB cable).

The special “Set Mode Menu” allows you to tailor many operational parameters to your personal taste including:  Priority Watch, Key-touch beep, beep level, power save, NB/ANL/AF filter functions, AM antenna selection, scope audio, dial speed, etc.

Your R20 is preprogrammed with popular shortwave channels. The R20 comes with:  BC-153SA wall charger, BP-206 Li-ion battery pack, MB-98 belt clip, battery spacer, BNC telescopic antenna and wrist strap.

The R20-11-GOVT model is the same as above, but without the 824-849 / 869-894 MHz cellular gap and can be purchased by the Federal government or for export only. This version is not available via on-line ordering.
